Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation June 2011 to June 2013
Senior Vice President and Deputy Head, Group Communications
I planned, developed and implemented public affairs strategy, encompassing corporate responsibility programmes, internal communications initiatives and external media relations and marketing communications (across diverse business groups including Retail Banking and Wealth Management, Insurance, Private Banking, Asset Management, Global Banking and Markets, Trade and Commercial Banking) to enable HSBC to achieve its strategic and business goals.
I was responsible for direct internal and external communications initiatives to promote and protect the Bank and Group image and reputation among stakeholders, media, customers, staff, government and non-government, investors and the community at large as an ethical provider of financial services, employer of choice and good corporate citizen.
I was an integral part of the Group's global corporate affairs network and expertise pool to ensure effective, professional and consistent communications with all stakeholders to achieve the strategic communications goals of HSBC.
I managed a team of nine internal and external communications and CSR staff, ranging from Assistant Vice President to Vice President positions.
I led crisis communications and issue management efforts and measures within the team to promote and protect the Bank's image and reputation among stakeholders, media, customers, staff, government and non-government, investors and the community at large as an ethical provider of financial services, employer of choice and good corporate citizen.
I also spearheaded corporate communications, and the announcement of quarterly, interim and annual financial results for the Group.
During my tenure, I revamped the internal communications channels and platforms for the Bank including the migration of the Singapore intranet to the new global HSBC platform, and single-handedly organised the Bank's annual CEO Roadshow comprising over 20 townhallsessions for more than 3,000 Bank staff over a three-week period.
On the CSR front, I launched the HSBC Water Programme, a five-year USD100 million water and sanitation programme to support EarthWatch, WaterAid and WWF to deliver water provision, protection, education and information; I also organised the bank's annual CR Challenge which mobilises and galvanises over 1,000 staff from across the bank to undertake renovation and refurbishment works in the homes of under-privileged families with the aim of providing a conducive environment for the children from these homes to live and grow, learn, study and improve their academic performance. Other initiatives which I spearheaded include the annual HSBC ChildAid concert and the HSBC-NYAA Youth Environmental Awards. I also successfully converted close to 2,000 staff to HSBC Climate Champions through their active participation and commitment to volunteer hours dedicated to sustainable development and the reduction of HSBC's global carbon footprint.
I also supervised and managed key marketing communications campaigns for strategic sponsorship, marketing and branding events such as the HSBC Women's Champions, premium/affluent-tier credit card launches and art sponsorships such as Dreams and Reality, a surrealist art exhibition held at the National Museum in partnership with Musee D'orsay.
